Annual Justice William O. Douglas Hike

May 2, 2009 Bus Reservation Form

As in the past, the annual Justice William O. Douglas Hike will be combined with the final day of the 2-week Thru-Hike celebrating the 55th anniversary of Justice Douglas’ famed hike to save the C&O Canal from becoming a parkway. The hike is scheduled to begin at 9:30am at Great Falls, MD.

There are 3 options for hikers:

  1. Great Falls to Milepost 0 – 14.3 miles
  2. Lock 10 to Milepost 0 – 8.7 miles
  3. Chain Bridge to Milepost 0 – 4 miles

For those who are interested, we have arranged for shuttle buses to take hikers from the vicinity of Milepost 0 (parking area for Thompson’s Boat Center near the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Rock Creek Parkway ) to Great Falls and the other 2 drop-off points. The 1st bus is scheduled to leave at 8:30am and will be reserved for Thru-Hikers and others doing the long hike (if space is available). There is a 2nd bus scheduled to leave at 9am. It will drop hikers at Great Falls then on to Lock 10 and finally Chain Bridge. Additional buses will be scheduled, if needed.

The cost to ride the bus is $3 in advance or $5 at the bus the day of the hike. Reservations are recommended to assure seating.

All reservations MUST be received by April 10, 2009.
